I thought this topic was really interesting, but I’m curious about something that was covered near the end. They mentioned that Denmark was paying a tropical country to keep its forests intact. I’m curious about how many other efforts there are to make those intact forests a more valuable resource to the countries holding them than if they tore them down and replaced it with palm oil trees or whatever they deem profitable. Obviously paying those countries directly is one option, but does anyone know of other options that have been explored?

I know hydrogenated palm oil has tons of transfats, but I’m seeing non-hydrogenated palm oil in products like Newman’s Own cookies and Skippy Natural peanut butter. Neither show any transfats on their labels, but I’m curious as to whether or not I should be concerned regardless.
